Jersey City, New Jersey

LHH: See you reppin' NJ.  Speak a little on your city and the hip hop scene there.

BOI: First I want to say what’s good and thanks for having me…. I’m from Jersey City, born and raised also known as (Chilltown). The hip hop scene here is a loss of creativity…. Lauren Hill, Queen Latifah, Naughty by Nature we got some of the greats from Jersey… Now and days everybody wants to be a gangsta I want to see creativity, versatility, honesty. When are people going to stop lying and just be themselves, that’s where hip hop comes from expressing your feelings but, how are you expressing your feelings when you’re lying about everything? Just be yourself!!!  Hip hop is like a relationship, if you love it so much be true to her…. Because hip hop is my girl, I’m going to always love my Baby….

LHH: It seems there is a new gay or lesbian rapper coming out everyday.  What distinguishes you from the many gay rappers around the industry?

BOI: New rappers come out everyday gay, straight, bisexual… And what distinguishes me from all other rappers is because I bring the truth to the mic.. (If I said it/ Then I did it/ If you don’t believe me/ Then forget it/) I have no reason to lye

LHH: Talk briefly about your image and your style of dress.  Do you feel pressured to change your image to sell records?

BOI: My image and style of dressing is me... The way I dress and speak is who I am not what others want me to be...… I’m not going to throw on a skirt or tight jeans when that’s not what I wear… I’m not switching sides for nobody… I’m not going through all that to sell an album.

LHH: How do you feel about hip hop's portrayal of women?  Do you think women are demanding the respect they deserve?

BOI: I think women aren’t as demanding as they used to be because women like MC Lyte and Queen Latifah fought hard to opened doors for other female rappers and some where and some how women stop fighting as hard … I also think women give themselves their own labels… If a girl in the video clapping her ass to make a living and society calls her a  whore or something… I wont because that’s how she eat, feed her family and  provide a roof over their heads... I see it as acting basically…. Who are we to judge?

LHH: Describe your dream girl.  What is your idea of a hell date?

BOI: My dream girl is someone that’ll always be by my side… When I cry she cry, when I laugh she laugh, When I’m down she lift me up by (consoling me, holding me, caressing me). Let me know its going to be alright. She going to have my back no matter what. I don’t care about shapes and sizes you can be fat, skinny, chunky, chubby…. I love em all… Just as long as your heart is in the right place. Your mind gotta be correct… How does it look being with a fine girl and she dumb ass hell... I look at a woman for who she is… Beauty is within for all those that don’t know!

LHH: What's dope about gay hip hop?  What changes would you like to see in the movement?

BOI: I would like to see GLBT’s rep for who they are and not for what the record labels think we should do...Its hot that you can come out gay and don’t care what people think about you… The changes I want to see done is stop changing your image… If you a stud, and you don’t wear skirts and tight jeans don’t change, be yourself….

LHH: Describe your approach to writing.  What are your favorite things to rap about?

BOI: I approach writing like any one else who has a dream and a passion about something they love so much with strive, ambition, dedication and most important with love.... When I sit down and write if I get off track I stop and pause because I don’t want to push it...
My favorite thing to write about is life experiences, things I seen, and been through… Just reality…

LHH: What projects are you working on now?

BOI: I’m working on a mixtape right now that’ll be done by the end of May or early June…. What’s good with the Sakia Gunn mixtape? I’m still getting on that?

LHH: How can folks learn more about you?
